10.1 Manufacturing Steps
Dozens of process steps are needed to manufacture current
semiconductor devices. The process steps can be grouped as follows
[114,62,84].
- Pattern definition: lithography.
- Pattern transfer: etching.
- Layer formation: oxidation, deposition, and metalization.
- Layer modification: ion implantation and diffusion.
In the following the major processing steps for MOS and bipolar
manufacturing are shortly discussed.
