Figure 4.1 illustrates how SIESTA's TCAD
experiments can be used to perform TCAD investigations of various
kinds with models. A model is subject to a predefined
experimental configuration which can for example be an optimization, a
Design of Experiments setup, or a statistical analysis. To describe
the investigation, a user selects one of the available experimental
configurations and specifies the model, as can be seen in
Description 4.1. This model is considered as a black box from
the experiment's perspective which only knows detail about the
model's ports. Additional to the specification of the model, the
experiment is configured in several respects, depending on the actual
class of experiment.
Similar to models, all experiments share common
properties. As shown in Description 4.1, they all use the
model entry to refer to a file describing the model which
is the subject of the investigation, and they all record their
activities, or results, to the file given in log.
