Tapping remote computation resources is not a trivial task. Many
obstacles, like slight differences between certain flavors of UNIX,
a lack of remote execution standardization, or shortcomings in the
implementation of distributed file-systems inhibit simple
implementations. The task objects represent a robust, full
functional, and system independent implementation of system processes
at remote workstations. Relying on operating system abstractions of
VLISP [35], they offer a comfortable and easy way to execute
remote jobs and to communicate with them.
